Safety comes before the booking details
When a tyre fails, your first task is to reach safety, not to produce the perfect photo for a fitter. Keep control of the vehicle, avoid abrupt manoeuvres and stop somewhere safe. On a motorway, follow the Highway Code's breakdown instructions. Do not attempt tyre repairs on the hard shoulder or in an emergency area. Emergency assistance and recovery may be needed before fitting can happen.
If you cannot get to a safe place or cannot safely leave the vehicle, the Highway Code directs you to remain inside with your seat belt fastened and call 999. Do not step into a live lane to inspect the wheel. Tell the operator your position and follow their instructions. An ordinary tyre quotation must not delay an urgent call for help.
Give the exact location first
Once you are safe, identify the road, direction of travel and nearest useful landmark, or the postcode if the vehicle is on a driveway or in a car park. A live location pin can help, but add a written description. Do not walk along a motorway looking for a marker or signal just to improve a tyre enquiry.
At a private site, say which entrance is accessible and whether a gate or barrier is involved. At a car park, provide its name, level and height restriction. Tell the provider whether the car is safely off the carriageway. This helps distinguish a potentially suitable mobile working location from a situation needing recovery first.
Identify the wheel and tyre specification
Say which wheel is affected: front or rear, driver or passenger side. Send the complete size and other specification markings from that tyre if you can see them safely. Add the vehicle registration or make and model, and say how many tyres are damaged. Two damaged tyres on one side after an impact require different preparation from a single slow puncture.
If the sidewall is unreadable, tell the fitter. Do not guess from the wheel diameter alone or copy another wheel without checking whether axle sizes differ. A wide photograph showing the tyre markings can be more useful than a blurred close-up. There is no need to enter an unsafe position to obtain one.
Mention anything that could prevent fitting
A missing locking wheel-nut key can stop an otherwise straightforward replacement. Let the provider know before they travel. Also mention damaged wheel bolts, a visibly bent wheel, run-flat tyres, very low vehicle clearance, access restrictions or a previous temporary repair. These details help establish whether the equipment and replacement proposed are suitable.
Describe whether the tyre was driven flat, whether it is holding any pressure and whether you heard or felt anything unusual. Do not promise yourself that an object can simply be removed and plugged. The fitter needs to assess the tyre, and additional wheel or vehicle damage may require work outside a normal mobile tyre visit.
Confirm price, attendance and the next step
Ask for the total quoted amount and the tyre brand or model being supplied. Clarify travel, fitting, balancing, disposal and any other agreed work. If the request is for inspection with repair if suitable, ask what the alternatives and costs are if repair is ruled out. Make sure the person attending has the same details that you provided.
An estimated arrival is not a guarantee. Confirm that the booking has actually been accepted and how updates will be communicated. If another provider solves the problem or recovery moves the vehicle, let the booked fitter know immediately. Clear communication prevents an unnecessary journey and avoids the confusion of several vans being requested for one job.
A message you can adapt
For a safe private location, a useful example is: “I need help with one rear tyre. The car is in a level private car park at [postcode], with access for a van. Tyre size: [full code]. The locking wheel-nut key is available. The tyre is flat and I have not driven on it. Please confirm price and availability.” Replace the details with your actual situation.
Best Mobile Tyres handles suitable mobile fitting requests around Dudley, Brierley Hill and nearby areas. Send what you know and say clearly what you cannot check safely. We will discuss availability and the next step; messaging us does not replace emergency services or confirm that roadside work is possible.
This guide is general information, not a remote tyre inspection. If the vehicle or location is unsafe, stop driving and seek appropriate professional assistance.
